Eye-opening, informative tour

This was an incredible, non-touristy, off-the-beaten-path tour of Dharavi and other sites in Mumbai. Our tour guide had actually lived in the slum for over 25 years, and his explanations were especially vivid. He made clear that the tour was being done for educational purposes and wasn’t treating the community as a “circus,” which I highly respected. After meeting our guide and taking the train to the Dharavi area, the tour began in the industrial area of the slum, where the main industries included plastic recycling, garments, leather, and pottery. We also squeezed through the incredibly narrow alleyways of the residential section, which was packed with tiny rooms housing way too many people. We also passed by schools, fruit/vegetable markets, banks, and other stores, and our guide explained that most of the laborers and workers came here from places in India outside of Mumbai in order to find work and send money back home. Visiting Dharavi was a humbling, eye-opening experience (not for the faint hearted), but a great way to better understand the difficult life of the people in this community. Our tour then continued with a visit to Dhobi Ghat, a huge, open-air laundromat, where laundry is sent from all over Mumbai (including restaurants, hotels, and hospitals), for clothes and linens to be marked, hand-washed, and dried.

Overall, this was a well-organized, informative experience. Because the tour ran a little long, we missed seeing the last sight on the schedule (the dabbawallas), but it was an enjoyable experience nonetheless!
Unique and fun experience

Safe, entertaining, educational. The guide was awesome, down to earth, and full of knowledge. We went places I never could've imagined going alone.

Dinesh is one of the guides I have ever met. Aparte from having a deep knowledge from the áreas we visited, he made me feel very secure and in Good Hands. I Frankly recommend him to do any tour in Mumbai. I travelled by my own and he made me feel very comfortable visiting dharavi , dobby ghat and the dabhawallas' story
