Amazing

I had no plans to participate in a slum tour on my trip to India, thinking the idea sounded exploitative and voyeuristic. I was convinced by a friend to take Reality’s tour and am so glad that I did. This was a fascinating walk through a different world - conducted in a manner not only respectful of and helpful to the community, but also sharing such pride in it. Our guides both grew up in Dharavi and still choose to live there. Their insights on the costs and benefits of such a lifestyle perfectly supplemented the historical and political facts they shared to give it context.

After this experience, we chose Reality for tours in Delhi and Agra as well and only wish they were available in more locations!
Amazing!

We booked Reality Tours in December 2022 for a tour of Dharavi, which was definitely the highlight of our stay in Mumbai. We’ve never been the sort of travellers to restrict ourselves to the “beautiful” sites of the cities we visit and this was exactly the tour that we needed in a place such as Mumbai, where the divide between extreme wealth and deprivation is so stark.

Raj, our guide for the day, was an absolute pleasure to spend time with - knowledgeable, informative, well paced and undeniably cool. It goes without saying that we will do another tour next time we’re in Mumbai, and we will definitely be requesting Raj again specifically!

All the best with an excellent and quality initiative, guys!
Highly recommended.

Swetha guided us with knowledge, insight and pride. Any misconceptions about slum life were immediately dispelled as we learnt about the reality of this incredible community. Much of what you pay goes into important community education projects

There is a reason why this is the best-rated tour with the highest number of reviews.
If you only have 1 day in Mumbai. Bok this tour and skip the city . Your world view will change after the tour. Everyone can and should be happy regardless of where you live , New York or Slum in Mumbai
This tour will change your world view!

This tour was amazing. If it makes sense to meet at C-gate so you can take the train with the guide as well! Bipin was an excellent guide who has been doing this tour for 10 years. He knows the residents and therefore they were more than happy to show us their work. Yes, work. The slum is an industrial place, generating 1 billion in USD a year! If you think of the slum as only a poor community, take this tour and be ready to have your mind changed. It's a thriving and supportive community that will make you wish you worked that well with your own neighbors.

Side note: I was worried it would be awkwardly voyeuristic and inappropriate but it wasn't at all. When I first saw it on trip advisor, I was hesitant to join the tour but after doing a Mumbai market tour with the same company (and guide), I understood it would be educational everyone.
